A client of mine told me yesterday that his friend who works at Google in Search says that website videos are now much more important for search engine optimization (SEO). I asked my client if this increased emphasis on videos for SEO is because of the change that Google recently made on how image search results no longer drive traffic to the website. I wrote about this earlier in the week here: Changes to Google’s Image Search Causes Drastic Drop in Image Search Traffic. My client said that yes he surmises this is the reason his friend stressed the importance of having videos on websites.
The over-all message here is: Google changes its search functionality several times a year. Just when you think you have it all figured out, something changes, and your website drops off the first page. The over-all goal of search engines is to provide search results with websites with high quality, unique and fresh content. If your website consistently strives to have these qualities, your website will stay relevant, regardless of search engine functionality changes.
