Outbound Marketing–Old World
Outbound marketing requires that you broadcast your message to as many audiences as possible. Outbound marketing strategies include print ads, telemarketing and online advertising. Online advertising can be more targeted, but when I was at Yahoo in Display Advertising, a graphic ad on a Yahoo page may have gotten 2 million views, but only a thousand people clicked on the ad, a .05 percent return.
Outbound marketing usually involves big budgets with the expected very small conversion percentage. (Conversion is when someone takes an action, like clicking on an ad.) Inbound marketing is usually much more cost-effective for small businesses.
